This is a special announcement for anyone interested in improving their swivels.
The swivel is an iconic movement made by the Follow while in open position. Most often the swivel is taught on counts 1 and 2 of the swingout. There are many stylistic approaches to doing swivels.
I’d like to offer you this powerful and simple exercise that I use with all of my students to help them understand the body mechanics and shape.
This 4 minute lesson will clean up your swivels, strengthen your balance and coordination and show you the rotation that is needed through the shoulders all the way down to the feet.
We know if you take the time to do a 4 minute exercise your technique and body control will improve. This is an example of the training that Michael and I offer in our online Swing School.

Perfectly okay to swivel with feet apart like the dancers who created Lindy Hop (see Day at the Races dance sequence)…
Yep. All styles are great and dancers should be able to do as many different techniques as possible so they are flexible. Then it’s a matter of preference or what works best with the type of music and your partner.
